Ongwediva Medipark Kidney Haemodialysis ensures quality state of the art specialised care for patients who suffer from kidney disease and in failure either in an acute or chronic setting. This specialised treatment performs the work of healthy kidneys when kidneys have failed, as it assists by removing toxic waste and excess water from the body by filtering blood.
Kidney dialysis is a specialised treatment often taking 4 hours or more which involves a unique process of filtration of blood to remove excess waste products such as urea, harmful electrolytes and most importantly to control excess fluid which accumulates within body if one’s kidneys are distressed of have failed. Normal kidney function plays various important roles in health such as ensuring a healthy blood pressure, provides stimulus of red blood cell production and assists in the management of heart failure, without Dialysis health is severely compromised.
With our trusted team, we offer 2-3 (4-hour slots) for dialysis sessions each week. Dialysis is prescribed according to the individual needs of our clients. Our dedicated team is available 24/7 and there is always an on-call team available to work afterhours and over weekends as well as public holidays to ensure care is available for any renal emergency.
The Nephrology Services Specialist at Ongwediva Medipark provides the most advanced care in the Northern part of the country for patients in need of dialysis, including:
- Acute dialysis service for ICU and critically ill kidney patients.
- Adult and teenage out-patients dialysis with end-stage kidney diseases
- Hospitalized patients who are admitted develop acute or chronic renal disease
- Plasmapheresis a specialised plasma exchange program for specific disease such as Gillen-Barre Syndrome.
Kidney Transplant
This is known as the gold standard of care for those who suffer from kidney failure. To receive a kidney transplant is a’ gift of life’ where usually a healthy family member chooses to donate a kidney to their loved one, the transplant procedure involves a multidisciplinary team of specialised Doctors. The end goal is a successful kidney transplant which involves a surgical procedure whereby a donated kidney from a healthy person is surgically removed from a donor and transplanted into a person whose kidneys have failed and they require dialysis to maintain life. Dialysis is needed if more than 80% of normal kidney function is lost.
We are proud to note that our Kidney transplant program is the first within the borders of Namibia
- The first transplant was performed on the 29th of March 2016. We are proud of our donors and recipients whose lives are enriched with good health and much happiness.
- Currently we have Transplanted 10, evaluated over 55 patients with 10 cases currently in the active workup phase.
